Anime in South Africa

Although anime has grown in popularity in South Africa over the past few years, it's still very much a niche market and not as dominant as it is in countries like the USA and Japan. Store owners selling manga, figurines and other merchandise and the launch of the Animax DStv channel (which has since been cancelled) has gone a long way to making anime more mainstream in South Africa.

What is anime?

From Wikipedia: "Anime (an abbreviated pronunciation in Japanese of "animation") is animation originating in Japan. The world outside Japan regards anime as "Japanese animation". Anime originated about 1917."

What is ecchi?

From Wikipedia: "Ecchi is derived from a Japanese word meaning "letch", "lewd", "sexy", or "lascivious" when used as an adjective..."
