AKB48 Sold 655,000 Copies of "Sakura no Ki ni Narou" Within A Day

Kings Record and Aki-P must be laughing all the way to the bank because his pop idol group AKB48 has managed to break another chart record, breaking the highest number of single sold within a single day.
The latest 20th single “Sakura no Ki ni Narou 桜の木になろう” managed to sell more than 655,000 copies in a single day!!
AKB48′s 18th single “Beginner” was the former record holder with more than 568,000 copies sold in its first day. Of course, “Beginner” then took the #1 spot on Oricon’s top 10 singles chart for the year 2010.
At the amazing pace of things, AKB48 will soon be turning into an international phenomenon!! I wonder if Arashi can outdo AKB48 in terms of sales ranking when they release their next single.
